How would you define success? When you take into consideration the current societal standards of the world, what does success look like for you? As a woman, society tells me that success aligns with getting married, having kids, and taking care of my family. Ironically, that definition of success is something I have no desire to reach. Society also tells us that having an excess of material things makes you successful. Considering all of the factors of life, our purpose as humans was never to become “successful.” But at some point in history, this became a standard measurement to determine someone’s character or worthiness. Let’s talk about it.

I often think about how life was before the creation of civilizations. When the human race would have to hunt for their food and the only goal was to survive. I’m sure there were enjoyable moments for those people, but ultimately life was relatively simple. People didn’t care about the clothes you wore, or the car you drove in. In comparison to now, we have access to everything: food, water, technology, and even people. Everything can come to us at the push of a button. And not to say that its a bad thing but because of this, our priorities shift and lead us to focus on the things that are not important.

I say all of that to say I believe success is not measured by money or things with monetary value. To go a step further, I think that success is having an excess of things that you can not physically possess. The intangible traits that you carry and chase for, determine who you are and your character. So aim for a success that appears worthless, but in actuality, is priceless.
